All About Hypnosis
Hypnosis is actually a very natural state for the human mind. Every day when you wake up and every night before you go to bed, you are in a hypnotic state. In addition to this, every 90 to 120 minutes throughout the day, people enter a hypnotic or trance state.
Have you ever experienced yourself just staring vacantly out in the distance? There's really not much going on on the outside, but on the inside a natural shift has taken place. The CONSCIOUS mind takes this time to rest and the UNCONSCIOUS mind becomes highly receptive to learning powerful new behaviors and beliefs – making connections and forming understanding about the world around you.
With the help of a skilled hypnotherapist, you can access this state of heightened receptivity and understanding anytime you like. This is incredibly useful because in the state of hypnotic trance, you are able to rapidly learn new behaviors and “re-program” those limiting beliefs so that you can easily get to where you want to go.
It's also important to keep in mind that ALL hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist guides or facilitates the process and the client must at all times be willing to go with the process in order to establish a hypnotic trance. If the client has any inhibitions about the process, then it simply will not work for that client.
Now, to address some of the popular myths about hypnosis. Most of the myths about hypnosis are made popular by stage hypnosis. Have you ever been to a stage hypnosis show and seen “normal” people doing crazy things that they wouldn't do regularly? Because of this, you might assume the hypnotist has some kind of control over these people.
The truth is that the poeple who enjoy participating in stage hypnosis shows are the one's you'd least expect. Typically, it's the people who are so imprisoned by their own self-image and reputation that they've forgotten how to have fun. Stage shows provide an environment where they can relinquish responsibility for their own behavior while being generously rewarded with the applause and laughter of hundreds of people. They've chosen to go with the process and because of this, they are able to act without inhibition, worry or care and simply do what the hypnotist suggests. At the same time, their morals and values are still well maintained in
their mind, so there are certain things they absolutely will not do. If they are ever given a suggestion to do something they do not want to do, that suggestion will be disregarded entirely.
Have you ever noticed how at the beginning of a show, many people will go up on stage to be hypnotized, yet by the end of the show, only a few “stars” remain. These are the people who love to be in the spotlight. The ones who were asked to take a seat back in the audience are still able to be hypnotized, but they may have had some reservations about how the process would affect them and if they would embarrass themselves... and that's just fine. Stage hypnosis isn't for everyone.
In conclusion, hypnosis is a natural and very common state that everyone experiences everyday and hypnotherapy as about using this powerful state to make positive changes in your life.
